Schedule Back-to-School Physicals
Summer time is checkup time! While you’re buying backpacks, new notebooks and pens, please don’t forget school health requirements in the state of Georgia, too. Northside Pediatrics will help you get the whole family ready for a safe and healthy academic year with the camp physicals, sports forms, checkups, school health forms, and vaccinations required in Georgia.
If you have further questions, you can visit or call your local school office in the county or city in which your children will attend, or on the private school website. You can also contact our office to find out more about our usual exam procedures. Northside Pediatrics can help you fulfill all the school requirements before school starts!
A basic school physical is simple, and the Northside Pediatric staff has a special passion for working with children of all ages to make them feel comfortable and even have fun! Our office will measure your child’s height, weight, heart rate, blood pressure, and reflexes, and perform a complete exam. We address any concerns, go over your child’s history, discuss healthy habits and areas they’re doing great in, as well as those which could be improved. At certain visits, we perform vision and hearing screens, and may also do blood tests in our own lab. These steps not only prepare your child for school, but also serve as an important time to identify potential health problems early and seek preventative treatment.
Sports Participation Physical Exams
State law in Georgia requires all students pass a sports physical before participating in active athletic programs. Check with your school on due dates for these important forms. Please ask your school for its own form, and our pediatric staff can perform a basic exam that meets the criteria and send you back to school with the completed documentation.
Even if it’s not time to go back to school, some summer activities like summer camp also require a physical exam on the record. Typically, the camp or organization will share forms or information they need with a doctor’s signature, and then you can make an appointment with our office to complete their requirements.
When to Schedule a School Physical
Be an early bird! Don’t get caught in the checkup crunch at the end of the summer. At Northside Pediatrics, you can book your physicals as early as 3 months in advance. We recommend scheduling as far in advance as possible to ensure we have a convenient appointment time available. We also offer walk-in appointments for sick visits only on Monday mornings from 7:30 am to 8:30 am in our WAM (Walk-in Acute Care Monday) clinic. If required, please ask us about our Saturday sick visit office hours by appointment, starting at 8:45 am. Please note an additional $20 emergency charge will apply for Saturday appointments.
