Newborn and Infant Care in Sandy Springs

As a new parent, you know your infant is growing and developing rapidly during his or her first few months after delivery. At Northside Pediatrics, you have an experienced medical partner working with you to ensure you’re setting up your newborn for a healthy and happy future. Expectant parents, families with newborns, or families new to Sandy Springs can contact us for assistance planning and scheduling regular pediatric care.

Infant Care Schedule

At Northside Pediatrics, all our doctors are members of the Georgia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). We follow this national organization’s guidelines for scheduling infant checkups and monitoring healthy mental and physical development during these critical first few years. Expectant parents who join our group prior to delivery can schedule the first weight jaundice checkup the day after arriving home. The next appointments will happen normally at 2 weeks, then 2, 4, and 6 months, and then a little more spaced out at 9, 12-, 15-, 18- and 24-month pediatric visits.

What to Expect During Your Baby’s Wellness Check-Up

If you’re pregnant and looking for a provider, please visit the meet the doctor page to see our current schedule of Prenatal Meet & Greet sessions. We also offer short get-to-know-you appointments for new parents or families even with older kids who are new to the area, or who are looking for a new doctor, so you can meet one of our providers and see our beautiful offices in either our Sandy Springs or Woodstock office.

During your regular appointments in our clinic, you can expect several basic steps to monitor growth and progress This includes measuring your baby’s total length, weight, and head circumference, and going over their growth charts with them. A review of your baby’s birth history or history of what’s been happening since you were last in plus a complete physical exam is performed at each checkup including nutrition, developmental histories too.

To cover behavioral and developmental aspects of your infant’s health, we’ll speak to you about your baby’s typical actions, reactions, or changing habits. Your doctor will also engage and watch your infant to explore their developmental milestones, often through fun play! Some visits include important developmental screening tools to get parental input as to how things are going. We will discuss what we’ve found at the visit and what to expect before your next visit too, developmentally, nutritionally and with growth.
